All i can find are videos and books that start when the Europeans showed up. Does anybody know where i can find information about Native American history up to the point of the Europeans coming? Thanks.
hi, you may be interested in these, which both depict early contact with Canadian Inuit, from an Inuit perspective
the film The Journals of Knut Rasmussen (2006) by the Canadian Inuit production company Isuma, the same people who made the pre-contact film Atanarjuat The Fast Runner (2001). A quick synopsis is on Wikipedia and there's more info on Isuma's site
Peter Pitseolak's memoir, People from Our Side - An Inuit Record of Seekooseelak, the Land of the People of Cape Dorset, Baffin Island : A Life Story with Photographs (1975) with Dorothy Eber
edit: plus I mentioned the following works in this thread, Are there any documented cases of Native Americans visiting or living in London or some other city in Europe?:
CBC Radio 1 documentary, Abraham's Diary, based on the book The Diary of Abraham Ulrikab - Text and Context (2005)
the documentary film Experimental Eskimos (2009), which takes place certainly much later than first contact, but still a culture in transition
We do have a Book List under Resources that you may want to check out.
