Hello. I am trying to find out some information on the year 1398 in Cumberland England. I need to know if what the Lord's and Ladies ate off were called plates.
I can't answer off the top of my head, but the sort of sources you'd want to look for to find the Middle English word would be household inventories. Those would have lists of cutlery, crockery, table linens, clothing, etc. Good luck.
