Did People celebrate the turn of the millennium in 1000 BC the same way we did in 2000 BC?

It may be hard to point it out without making a joke. How would anyone celebrate anything 1000 years before an event happened?

Our system (the Gregorian Calendar) is connected to the anno domini, or the counting of years from the incarnation of Christ that gained popularity in the early Medieval period. Cultures prior to the date of the proposed Incarnation would have counted years differently, simply because the event had not yet happened. Even today, not all people measure time the same way. The Islamic world uses a lunar calendar that measures time from the Hijra, or the year that Muhammad left Mecca for Medina. We are currently in 1435 AH!

I think that the year 1000 AD was more feared then celebrated.
