What effect did the Maori warriors have in WW2? Were there other tribal units in other countries?

They didn't have a major affect on WWII. The existence of the Maori Battalion was more about raising British and global awareness of their people.

I'm not aware of any other special battalions or the like specifically for a tribal group, but that's not to say none of them fought. In the United States for example, Native Americans were put into integrated units.
