Help with the old poor law.

by xNuckingFutz

Can anyone give me any stats or figures of fraudulently claimed outdoor relief, which was stated as an excuse to get rid of the old poor law.

The Poor Law Amendment Act (the "New Poor Law") of 1834 was enacted on the basis of the report by the Royal Commission established in 1832 to examine the state of poor law administration in England. The full report can be found here. The "abuse" of outdoor relief is discussed on pages 14-50, but the appendices with the statistics are not included in this publication and can, as far as I can tell, only be accessed through the Parliamentary Papers website, which requires an institutional subscription.
