Found this letter and a picture. Can anyone identify who these people are or were?

by Harvest2001

My mom found this between the pages of a book. The only known information I have is it is during the 6 day war or the June war of 1967. I tried to Google "Bob Spires, NBC", "Jim NBC", "NBC June war 1967" nothing came up that I could find to shed some light on the issue. Would appreciate any insight or possible other places to look for further information.

To be honest, I'm not sure if this question even belongs here.

Nevertheless, I somehow found something that might be interesting to you.

Having looked into major NBC reporters who were killed in Jerusalem in 1967, I stumbled upon Ted Yates. This seems to fit into that aspect of your letter, especially the fact that he was hit by a mortar.

More research about Ted Yates led me to this book. The page I linked to talks about how a group of journalists (Ted Yates's crew in fact) were faced with the difficult task of escaping from Amman, after learning of Mr. Yates's death. One of these journalists was a cameraman named Robert "Jim" Norling. If you read the preview, it seems like the account of their hasty escape lines up almost perfectly with your letter. In particular, Mr. Norling is recorded as having "shot spectacular news film of the bombardments" (pg 298) in reference to the Israeli bombings. Therefore, I'd recommend buying/borrowing this book if you want to learn more.

Then again, I could be totally wrong. It seems to fit though.
