hello, im am currently doing the research project, and I want to learn more about the impacts that the russian empire has made on our modern world. My questions are:

  1. What were the main political events of the Russian empire
  2. Who were the primary Influential people of the Russian empire
  3. What was their culture during that time (i.e. sports, Arts, etc)
  4. What was their impact on the modern era
  5. How extensive is that impact? thanks for your time

Some mixed notes about Russian culture:

Despite having an extremely low literacy rate compared to the West, late Imperial Russia had a rich literary culture. Examples include: Turgenev, Tolstoy, Gorkiy, Doestoyevski and tons more. These books are widely considered to be hallmarks of fine literature in large parts of the world.

Russian music and poetry was also internationally renowned, with people like Pushkin or Tchaikovsky.

As for a few big players in the Russian empire, look at Nicolas II, Alexander II, Petr the Great, Ivan the Terrible, and Catherine something.

The social dynamics of 1800s Russia were pretty similar to anywhere else in Europe at the time. Small literate elites, often involved in the military in some fashion, made up a small landowning class that controlled the rest of the society. The Orthodox faith was central to Imperial Russia, but other religions as far as I am aware were not centrally oppressed by the state.

As for a few key events: Time of Troubles, Crimean War, Partitions of Poland, assassination of Alexander II, 1861 reform, 1905 Japan war and revolution.
