After the Great Depression in the US, who did better economically? People who still used banks, or people who stopped using them? Is there any evidence of the difference?

I'm just wondering if there is any historical evidence of whether or not it was a good or bad choice for people after the Great Depression to stop using banks because they no longer trusted them. I've heard many stories of older couples simply "stowing money away under the mattress". I assume that a larger percent of the modern population uses banks vs. the population that suffered through the GD, and I wonder whether that really makes much of a difference when compared.

I dont have direct evidence but after the GD the FDIC was around witch makes it save for anybody to store money there. That beeing said for people who dont have that much money, the diffrence is rather small.
