I'm removing this post as it's too broad for our forum, and might be beter posed in /r/asksocialscience or /r/askanthropology.
They'd be better positioned to explain the workings of the preferences of static vs. changing social norms.
However I will say that I have read a book on the subject you're asking about, and in a nutshell the answer is about "who benefits" in a world of static vs. dynamic changes in social tradition.
In a world of static non-change, the old benefit from their accumulation of a lifetime of knowledge. But in a world of dynamic and constant change, the young benefit from having the most up to date knowledge, newer knowledge which invalidates the knowledge of the old.
