One of the interesting effects of prohibition and the repealing of it was that prohibition put all large breweries out of business. Many of them used their bottling technology to switch to bottle ketchup and things like that. When prohibition was repealed most of the brewers had moved on with their lives and did other things. So their recipes and traditions were lost. The big companies that could mass produce bottled beer ended up producing low quality horse piss, and after people got used to drinking it they developed a taste for it. That's why Americans drink Budweiser, Miller and other cheap beers that no self-respecting German (for example) would ever drink.
