Help with Hitler photos, possibly never been seen.

by dirkdiggdvda

When my grandfather passed away a few years ago, we found a taped cardboard box hidden in the back of his closet. After taking the duct tape off, inside was a complete picture album with color pictures and B&W of Hitler. The story we were told is he was in a communications division in the air force. He found a picture album in a drawer while in Germany, and inside had over 100 photos of Hitler, the Eagles's Nest, and some where he looks normal with expensive suits, not military suits. Even posing with children in one. Some of the pictures have handwriting below the pics, but we can't read it due to being German. I can recognize dates though as some were 1935 and so on. Cool, but I don't know who to ask for translations, are they valuable, etc? Any help is appreciated.

Whatever you do, DO NOT break up the album/collection.

The question is: are you looking to sell them or to donate them to an institution?

From a historian's view, it's not exactly like there are not enough Hitler photos. Until his death, he might have been the most photographed man in history (now THAT's an unsubstantiated claim! Sorry.).

Anyway, I don't believe this is never-seen-before material. I searched for the last few, as they have that private vibe, Hitler in suit and all that. Here it is on deviantart and there is another hit for a stock photo site.

Here's the captions and a translation:
"Besichtigung der Nürnberger Parteibauten"
"Inspection of the Nuremberg party buildings"

"Der Führer geht zum täglichen Vorbeimarsch"
"The Führer on his way to the daily march"

"Film 94 32 Blick von der Kneifelspitze nach Berchtesgaden"
"Film 94 32 View from Kneifelspitze to Berchtesgaden"

Funnily, there's a webcam with this exact title nowadays

"Reichsparteitag 1937"
"Reichsparteitag 1937"

"Coburg 18.7.35"
"Coburg, July 18th, 1935"

You absolutely need to scan all of these into a computer as soon as possible. This will preserve them but also make identification easier. YOu can do a google image search and presto, you'll be able to see if anybody else has them.

OP, unfortunately we wouldn't be able to give you pointers on selling. You're best off looking into the Library of Congress, or for universities that have WWII, Hitler, or Holocaust programs. There are a good deal of museums that might be interested as well.
