Why do people think the moon landing is fake?

by [deleted]

I've been reading about the jfk assassination and how certain things caused people to lose faith in the government and might have caused a rise in conspiracy in regards to the assassination. Like the umbrella man, oswald dying so soon, the video which caused more confusion than it would have if there wasnt one, etc.

So the question is, what about the moon landing or events around the moon landing that might have contributed directly or indirectly with the belief that it was fake?

It feeds their narcissistic tendencies. Or at least that's the short answer.

There's a certain attractiveness to being that guy, or one of the people, who had that "Ahah!" moment where they make some huge discovery that completely changes normal life for everyone.

There's really no question about whether it happened or not, just a bunch of people posing a bunch of points in an attempt to disprove it that can be left at, "so you mean to tell me the US government was willing to spend the money to stage this, somehow got the Soviets to not publicly ask about why we apparently did it, yet they can't find proof, and would still not bother to look for the little mistakes and details?"

They really would think that the US would film it on a Hollywood lot, and then not bother to check it, or pay someone to check post-production for errors that Joe Public would find?

And that's the crux of it. They are so certain they're right about it that they're going to ignore common wisdom and thought because the idea of them being right is more powerful in their mind than them being just another person. Its kinda like the "us and them" mindset cults can fall into.
