Writing a research paper on the media's effect on the Cuban Missile Crisis...any advice or anything interesting history buffs?

by whiteblackandreddit

-Focusing mainly on the effects of the American press on the American people

-Looking for anything controversial relating to the 13 day incident

  • anything that JFK or the government covered up would be great
  • which newspapers should I use?
  • is there a way to get TV clip from some sort of database?

Honestly anything would help, I'm a mechanical engineer, so this really isn't my thing as you might of guessed. Thanks Reddit!

TLDR; Cuban Missile Crisis. The Media's effect on American People. Sources? Help!

Covered up? I guess if you wanted to, you could discuss how the United States and Soviet Union, as part of the missile trade that brought an end to the crisis, didn't disclose the withdrawal of missiles from Turkey until much later.

The Soviet withdrawal was widely broadcast, but that of American missiles from Turkey was barely discussed and not until some months later.

Walter Lippman's October 1962 newspaper column suggesting the missile trade would be a good source on that, and if you can find coverage of the American withdrawal of missiles from Turkey, that could work as well.
