Tonight's episode of Cosmos made Robert Hooke look like a rather bad man. I had no idea this was his reputation. Was he really the bad guy the show makes him out to be?

His introduction on Cosmos was actually very good for his profile. They laid out his great contributions to science. The thing that made him look bad are the unfounded accusations of intellectual theft he made against Newton. Not sure of the veracity, but those certainly put him in a bad light.

I'm interested too. Neal Stephenson's portrayal of Hooke in the System of The World books piqued my interest, mystical alchemy plot details aside.
