This question has been removed because it violates the rule on poll-type questions. These poll-type questions do not lend themselves to answers with a firm foundation in sources and research, and the resulting threads usually turn into monsters with enormous speculation and little focussed discussion. “Most”, “least”, "best" and "worst" questions usually lead to vague, subjective, and speculative answers. If you'd like, you may PM /u/caffarelli to have your question considered for an upcoming Tuesday Trivia thread.

It is hard to answer since leadership was all important except where the match was totally uneven. Some of the best never had to actually exchange blows. Asian "hordes" probably were more terrifying than combat effective. (Aetius beat Atilla with a third rate army. Persian immortals left the field to numerically inferior Heruli foederati at Dara. The Light Brigade actually so dumbfounded the Russians that they also withdrew.) I don't count US Confederate States cavalry since they were scouting forces not heavies.
