My best friend is trying to find out more about a grandfather he never knew and only recently learned about. We know he was born in England to an American father and a English mother around 1900. And that somehow he ending up fighting in WWI in the American Navy. We have no idea how that happened since a census says he immigrated in 1919 to America. If I had to bet, I would say that this is a merchant marine or shipping company uniform. It is certainly not an American naval uniform of any era. The only other thing I have to go on is that the cap badge looks like it's got the St. Andrew's Cross/Saltire on it, so you can look at companies that were operating in Scotland. That said, I'm sure there were a ton, the British merchant marine was the largest in the world until, I believe, WWII.
