Opinions on Che Guevara

by awwnutts

hey guys. long time lurker, first time poster. I have always been interested in the Cuban revolution but I have had trouble finding unbiased information on Che Guevara after 1959. Do any of you know some balanced sources I could read so that I can finally get some facts on what he did and did not do. There are just so many myths about him and it would be nice to read something that is a little more history a little less propaganda/sensationalism.

If you have time, read Jon lee Anderson's Che Guevara a revolutionary life. He spent 5 years and has interviewed many people and has gone through never before seen documents. Easily the most/best researched. I've read many books on him, but I would consider this the best by far. Also, the way it was written made it go by very quickly.

Edit: didn't see that this was mentioned already

This book felt well researched and had the tone you suggest.

Review of this book and motorcylcle diaries. http://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/53522/kenneth-maxwell/che-guevara-a-revolutionary-life-companero-the-life-and-death-of...loved this sentence from a the review "a young man like many of his epoch moved by a grandly romanticized and burning desire to change the world, but unlike many others one who actually did something about it." Che was in many ways problematic and violent, but this is the aspect that is cool about his life.
