Are there other figures commonly believed to have existed, who were supposedly prominent but left behind no real historical footprint(i.e contemporary mention)?
Yes, do check our the link to the commonly asked question for discussion of sources on the historical Jesus.
I think there's a problem with your question in terms of prominence, significance, and historical evidence. Let me try and explain that problem. The sources that we have on Jesus are remarkably more than for any other comparable 1st century itinerant Jewish preacher with claims of being a Messiah figure. However you interpret those documents, their very existence demonstrates that he did leave a significant historical impact on early Christian adherents, and that impact continued to expand to a point where Jesus' life is historically significant, even if in its contemporary context it wasn't prominent.
So to draw comparisons, on the one hand you should compare with other similar figures. For 1st century Jewish Messiah claimants, that might be figures like Judas of Galilee or Theudas, both of whom led short-lived revolutions that ended in their death. Neither left significant documentary evidence or launched movements that continued to expand beyond their death. The primary source for both of these figures is brief mentions in Josephus, with a reference to both of them in the Biblical book of Acts (5:36-38) which seems to reverse the chronology of those two figures compared with Josephus.
My point is, the paucity of sources for Jesus is not surprising when you consider the historical context of his life, and the proposed historical content of his life. Rather, the abundance of sources is surprising.
Actually prominent figures, i.e. people who were significant leaders or figures in their own time, do leave behind a historical footprint commensurate to their importance. The problem in your question is that you suppose Jesus to have been prominent, rather than significant, and then think that there is a silence concerning that prominence which is problematic. If I were to rephrase your question I would ask either (a) were there prominent historical figures who left behind comparatively minor historical traces, and if so who and why? or (b) Are there non-prominent but significant figures, like Jesus, who left a historical impact seemingly out-of-proportion to their lives?
Jesus did leave behind an historical footprint. You might check these commonly asked questions for more information.
