This is a homework assignment, but I'm having trouble finding information on the topic. The question goes as follows:
a) Explain three direct ways in which the interests of slave owners were protected by the original Constitution. b) Explain how the functions of government overlap among the branches of the US government.
I'm actually really interested to learn more about it despite the fact that it's homework, so any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm fairly sure you have to do more research on the subject, because these topics are very commonly talked about in history textbooks and online.
Good luck, and send me a PM if you really continue to come up empty on things to use, and I'll try to help you out as best I can (I'm studying antebellum America, which is roughly 1800-1860 by many accounts, and am a political science student). However, I won't just give you the answers, as I think this is something that will give you the chance to learn how to research history :).
