If you Google "Tule Lake National Historic Landmark nomination" the top listing is the National Historic Landmark nomination form, which is worth reviewing. The nomination was controversial because part of what might have been included was on private land and was excluded from the nomination, but the property was of such extraordinary significance that it was important to guide the nomination past conservative objections. I was on the National Historic Landmarks Committee from 2004-2013 (chair from 2009 to 2013), and seeing this and other internment centers listed as Landmarks was one of the great successes I was pleased to contribute to, if only in a small way.
