This has been floating around my facebook, and I was wondering how accurate it was.
Based on reverse Google image search, those images themselves do appear to be legit. But let me offer a comparison.
USA in 1947, President Truman meeting with the NAACP on the very public steps of the Lincoln memorial. Look at all the progressiveness this photo embodies!
USA in 2015, fliers handed out openly to families in the US that scream "Wake up, WHITE AMERICA! Stop allowing these third world savages to walk all over YOUR people." And people say that we've progressed.
Just as easily, however, I could show this from 1965 and this from 2008.
Surprise, surprise, a social media team uses single pictures to oversimplify everything in order to invoke a response! So while it is true that during the 60s and 70s steps were taken to modernize these countries and later revolutions overthrew the governments that were making that happen, the countries don't exist today in states of dreary religious oppression. Yes, it happens, but it does everywhere in the world. Using a single photo of it to represent the country is dirty yellow journalism.
