Was the color white associated with death in Punic culture?

by Punic_Hebil

I read a many good years ago now that Carthaginians associated the color white with death, but this was on a video game. I've been trying to verify or see where they got this from, asking people if they had any ideas with no success.

I've read Polybius, Aubet, Lancel, and others and haven't found anything that refers to this. Any help in verifying or debunking this would be most appreciated!

Hello there! Thank you for the heads up, as I didn't notice your question originally. At any rate, I am unaware that the Carthaginians ever associated the color white with death. The only possible evidence that one could extrapolate is that the Sacred Band of Carthage carried white shields into battle (Plutarch Timoleon 27.4, ...κατόπιν δὲ τούτων μυρίοις ὁπλίταις λευκάσπισι; Diodorus does not mention color in his two references to the unit, at 16.80.4 and 20.10.6)--but that's definitely a stretch. Do you remember what game made this claim?
