Were large medieval cities culturally diverse or primarily one race?

Have a read through of this post I did a few weeks ago about race in the medieval period, it should help you understand both the problematic nature of your question and also provide some answers.

The short answer: notwithstanding one's definition of 'race' - or the applicability of the modern concept of race to the medieval periods - most mediterranean cities, and many northern ones too, would have had representation of a variety of peoples from the most northern reaches of Europe, down to the western Mediterranean and across to the Byzantine lands. Populations would have varied by city.
