Here is a 1981 document from Dugway Proving Ground in Utah outlining the threats of insect warfare.. The information you're looking for is on Page 15 of the document, and Page 7 of the slideshow. I include it because it's easy to access. The University of Florida's entomology department also has a short description of the operation.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Big Buzz, this was a program conducted by the U.S. Army in 1955 over Georgia. More than 1 million mosquitoes were raised in captivity, then about a third of those were released by aircraft to test the feasibility of using homegrown mosquitoes as a weapon of war.

The test found that the mosquitoes bit humans within about a half-mile of the drop site.
