Good Sources to Know the "Whys" of History?

by mvaliente2001

Hello, historians. What books you can suggest me to understand better the historic events? The kind of books that make emphasis, not in dates but in causes. Questions like why the roman empire felt? Why the Muslims rose, to fall, some centuries after to Europe? Something that connect and explain world events.

I'm looking more for books that cover a long time and not just specific epochs.

Thanks in advance.

C.A. Bayly's Birth of the Modern World should keep you busy for a while. Daniel Rodger's Atlantic Crossings also wouldn't be a bad choice.
