What have been the major intellectual/cultural centers of the world?

Here's a list of cities that were of vital intellectual importance during the "Enlightenment" and Victorian Era: -Philadelphia, USA. A center of radical, revolutionary thought in the Americas -Paris, France. Much like Philadelphia, center of the French Revolution as well as many others (e.g. Paris Commune). From here, radical thought would violently spring outward which would influence European politics and history for...well...until now really. -Berlin, Germany. The entire area of previous empires of the Austrians and the Prussians are great centers of revolutionary and authoritarian thought. Carlsbad or the Congress of Vienna would breed the anti-revolutionary ideas in post-Napoleonic Europe. The whole of Germany is a host to numerous and violent revolutions all which take place around 1848. -Athens, Greece. One of the most important cities in the story of democracy -Rome, Italy. A vital center of learning and culture and political thought in the ancient world and even after that with inventors/scientists like Leonardo DaVinci (even though he did not necessarily operate out of Rome) and Galileo. -St. Petersburg, Russia. This is the symbol of Czarist Russia moving towards modernization and autocracy. In contrast, it also is the center of the communist revolution that would decide worldwide political affiliations and history up until 1991.
