META - Old topics policy

Hi guys, I'm new here, so I apologize in advance if it seems I'm already trying to change things. It's not that. It's just a thought.

I was searching for some topics on which I could contribute with my scarce knowledge and found some old unanswered/incomplete topics, but it seems they are locked for new comments.

How dos this work? Is it an automatic thing? Is it a Reddit default behavior or subs have autonomy to change these settings?

Don't you guys think it would be better to keep all topics open? Thus we could always be adding new input and info to discussions. Also, this would avoid someone having to open a new topic to discuss an already, but incompletely, touched subject, thus making it easier to find info on such subject.

What do you guys think?

I'm sorry, again, if this sounds snoopy.

Also, congrats on the best sub so far :)
