It's pointless to try to apply current day politics to that time. The issues were very different back then and would most likely only vaguely resemble current day politics. It's comparing apples to oranges and such a perspective only hinders the context which we view him and his setting. Jesus of Nazareth was a very interesting character still in his own regard though.
That being said, from a philosophical perspective, Jesus does have an interesting point of view on things which were different for his time. Feeding the poor was one, as was advocacy for the disadvantaged. He still was opposed to the Roman occupation of Judea, which for many Jews was the norm. His Sermon of the Mount gave a good summary of his views at the time. He also preached nonviolence as well, which was also somewhat radical for his time considering he was born after the time of the Jewish Zealots.
