You may want to specify which time you're interested in. Ancient Egypt was divided in Upper and Lower Egypt before dynasty 0/1, from dynasty 7 to 10, from 13 to 17 and from 21 to 25; and each of those periods were different. Hence why it's hard to give a specific answer to your question without a specification.
