I heard today Truman and FDR rarely, if ever, communicated or consulted one another. To what extent is this true? Was it just due to personal differences or was it more?
VP's, especially then, existed largely to help the presidential nominee get elected. Truman, however, wasn't even VP until he ran with FDR on his 4th term. By the time they were inaugurated FDR had about 4 months to live. Considering FDR had been president for 12 years already, he had his governing apparatus well in place and it didn't need some hayseed from Missouri butting in.
