I've found plenty of information on the various calendars used by the Romans. The thing I'm lookng for, though, is where was the start of the calendar was. I'm trying to date something in roman years and I cant.
The Roman absolute reckoning is ab urbe condita - from the founding of the City (of Rome), which is traditionally dated to 753 BC.
While this was used somewhat often, it is much more common to see something dated by a statement of who was consul at the time.
