I've read that he had a significant influence, and I've read that the influence is vastly overstated. Is there any specific evidence indicating Richard Wagner had a significant influence on Hitler?
Well Wagners son; Houston Chamberlain, went on to write one of the approved readings for the Nazi party. His work was titled The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century and throughout the book heavily promoted the Aryan race. Hitler and Houston met on many public occasions and spoke via letters on multiple occasions. Hitler could have just loved this great composers work, such as people have found inspirations throughout the years from Beethoven, Bach or Chopin. I could not find a more accurate source then this, but Hitler and Wagner never met in person. All I have been able to determine from mining the internet is that Hitler was personally an admirer of Wagners music and took inspiration from it. Hitler was born in 1889, and Wagner died in 1883, so it is very safe to say they never spoke. But as a person who is in a position of power (Hitler), it is not uncommon for some to seek out their idols, or be as close to them as possible. I have come to conclude that Hitler just truly admired and found inspiration in Wagners work. Please respond and let me know what you think. I hope this helped.
