Nowadays we count we year Jesus is said to be born in as year 0, but what did the romans and other cultures use before that?

hi! this is a popular question! check out the FAQ*, which includes a link to a recent excellent podcast. Incidentally, there is not "year 0": the Gregorian calendar year goes from 1BC to 1AD.
