The main purpose of the United Nations was to prevent another war as devastating as World War Two. While US-Soviet bilateral diplomacy has quite likely played a greater role toward that end than the United Nations has, one could definitely say they've succeeded in that, as no World War Three has taken place.

This seems like it's inside the 20 year cutoff.
