What currency (if any) was used by the Minoans?

by CallMeDeaconBlue

As the title says, I want to know what type of currency (if there was any currency) was used by the Minoans during the time they dominated the Aegean in the late Bronze Age. Did they just use a bartering system or was there some other form of exchange?

I believe that the Minoans were a pre-money economy. And until we are able to decipher their script, Linear A, we can only make guesses as to how the intricacies of their economic system worked.

There have been a variety of ideas as to how their economy worked, ranging from it being a [Demurrage style system] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demurrage_(currency), to more farfetched ideas including an idea that the Minoans used [Saffron] (http://0iain0.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/hello-world/) as their means of currency.
