Prince is derived from the latin princeps (primary citizen) which Augustus Caesar used as his title. From then on princeps and prince became the general title for rulers. At what point did it become the term for royal family members and king become the title for rulers?

Also some titles for rulers Czar and Kaiser for example are derived from Caesar is King derived from Caesar?
