I found this mask in the trash up by my local church. It's a solid hand carved piece that looks to be a fish-man. I'm having trouble figuring out the symbol on the forehead. Any ideas of where it came from, what style or tribe or could be associated with? [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/PDXQIBN.jpg[/IMG]
There's little to ID here, I'm afraid. It is a wholesale creation meant for a western, tourist audience. It's somewhat of a combination of several central African motifs, but smooth and shiny and with a 'giraffe' design that westerners like.
