It was more a symbolic document in the long run considering that most of it was repealed by the 1900's and was only meant for noblemen. It was essentially about limiting the kings power and keeping government from being to centralized.

Compared to the US constitution, the Magna Carta wasn't as much of a guiding force but more like a guideline.
