What was a typical day like for a war photographer or correspondent in Vietnam during the Vietnam War? Would they go out on patrol with soldiers at all or were there certain photo opportunities they had during the day? How much of what they wrote about/pictured could or would be censored?

I can't answer that to 100% accuracy but The second half of full metal jacket could give you and example.

I can't say that it's historically correct in every way bit Kubrick wasn't one to just make up stuff for dramatic purpose. From what I have learned he loved history and worked very hard to be as authentic as possible.
