In case you haven't heard, today marks the 98th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland - one of the most well-known and researched events in modern Irish history. One of the more interesting things I learned whilst visiting the jail in Dublin was that most Irish Citizens were against the uprising....right until the participants and even some of their siblings were executed. The harsh reprisal from the British seems to have been the catalyst that launched the surge in Irish Nationalism that lead to the Revolution.
