I could recommend great book by Peter Gay Weimar Culture. It gives great insight on every day life, politics and culture in Germany between world wars.

I got a lot out of "The Dark Valley: a panorama of of the 1930's" by Piers Brendon. It has a very global perspective, moving through all the soon to be combatants by turn. I can't speak for the academic quality (references and such), as I am merely an enthusiast.

I still think of this as of the most terrifying and depressing books I have ever read. Like watching a planet sized train wreck in slow motion...

If you have access to JSTOR I can't recommend Sally Marks' The Myths of Reparations enough. It's a great resource on the interwar period detailing the issue of the financial reparations Germany had to pay, why Germany didn't pay its reparations (more complicated than 'they didn't have money', in fact she argues it was an intentional move), the rebuilding of the economy and the eventual lead up to the Nazi rise.
