What historical event is this mug commemorating? (1950 Middle East/North Africa)

The mug in question

My father-in-law found this cup in an antique shop and was wondering what it was commemorating.

The '1950' hints at the decolonisation period and my best guess was Libya (the closest match I could find to the shape of the country) but they didn't become independent until 1951.

Any Middle East/North African experts have a clue? Or Arabic readers?

It says Nadi Al Ahly Al Reyady, which means [Al Ahly Sports Club](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ahli_SC_(Tripoli)). The club was founded in 1950 as a part of the independence movement, so you are right that it is Libya on its crest.

EDIT: How do I properly link a URL that contains parentheses?
