The children of the Persians learn justice. Their leaders decide for the boys their cases against each other, matters of theft, robbery, violence, and verbal abuse. They also judge cases of ingratitude; for they consider ungrateful people to be neglectful of the Gods, their children, their fatherland, and their friends. Further they teach their children both self-control and self-mastery of both food and drink. And they learn also to shoot (bows) and to hurl (javelins).
