State of WW1 battlefields in WW2? Was there any crossover?

We can visit WW1 battle fields today and see the impact they still have on the landscape after nearly 100 years.

Were there areas of France and Belgium not only scared but still wounded after only 21 years?

I know many great war monuments were left untouched by the Nazis like Vimy ridge. Would farmers have already claimed the land back?

I remember a photograph of German troops advancing past a tank wreck that clearly was from WW1 and the text caption explained that farmers simply didn't bother to remove it from the field. But: I can't find the photograph on the internet anymore :(

It was most likely in France.
