1 Why were the Galapagos Islands never settled by humans until modern times?

I mean, all those currents leading up to it, huge fertile lands, and that gigantic continent right next to it. The animals there were so tame, they had obviously never seen humans, and I cant find any evidence of human settlers pre-colonization.

Why didnt humans find and colonize it?

It is very difficult for historians to determine why things didn't happen.

Chance? Luck? Who knows?

There are no written records detailing anyone finding the Galapagos Islands and deciding NOT to settle there. (Nor any other evidence.)

As far as we can tell, humans never discovered the Galapagos Islands until modern times, and therefore never settled there.

WHY the islands were never discovered (by Polynesians perhaps?) is impossible to say.

They were remote. They were isolated. They were either never discovered (likely), or discovered but never settled (possible).
