How much did Woodrow Wilson affect the future of American foreign policy?

by neycourt

While reading about Woodrow Wilson, I often see many authors writing about how revolutionary his foreign policy was. I see mentions of internationalism, self-determination, idealism, and advancing the causes of democracy.

Just how revolutionary were the Wilsonian ideals when compared to his predecessors? Are we still seeing the effects of his foreign policies today? If possible, I would like to see some specific events or policies that demonstrate just how important or different his foreign policy was. Thanks!

This is definitely a question for /r/Ask_Politics especially since it deals with the effects today.

I can give you some answers there, but I'd prefer not to infringe on the rules here that encourage more fact-based answers, rather than opinions on how nuances played out in something as difficult to determine as general foreign policy.
