How did the world powers of the time see the atomic bombings? Was it terrible or a justified necessity?
Well the British and Canadians helped build the things, so they saw the bombings as more of the culmination of their relationship - and were relieved they wouldn't have to commit more lives to fighting the Japanese. While they weren't a world power due to years of occupation/brutalization and in-fighting, the Chinese, probably down to the man, were quite happy about the bombings. The Russians were slightly perturbed, but knew the bombings were coming.
Two things need to be kept in mind here, the U.S. was at this time THE superpower and the only one with such a weapon, and Japan and Germany had basically spent the last decade wiping their arses with international law and decency. And, both refused to stop fighting until they were presented with the prospect of literal annihilation.
So no, the bombings weren't terrible. While their are very clearly different motivating factors between the two bombings, one should always remember that it was a war the Japanese chose, and chose to keep fighting.
