This week's Episode:
Trying something new this week! /u/TasfromTas, /u/AnOldHope, /u/400-Rabbits & /u/caffarelli got together to talk alcohol, reddit, moderator lyfe and upcoming episodes. /u/AnOldHope did an impromptu AMA too, which was hilariously informative.
Please ask any followup questions in this thread. Also feel free to leave any feeback on the format and so on.
If you like the podcast, please rate & review us on iTunes.
Thanks all!
Coming up next week: We have an interview with Shakespeare Gurl on Japanese Pirates!
Anyone who makes it to the end of this podcast probably deserves a prize. :P
Hi! I'm fairly new here. Just found out there was a Podcast because of your post! I will be checking it out for sure!
If there is another index you'd like the cast listed on, let me know!
If there is interest from others, would you be willing to index on Downcast? Maybe I'm the only one that uses it . . . so don't do it just for me! For now, I'm downloading it from iTunes! Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Ugh. I can't edit this from mobile right now, but here is the correct link for the latest episode: http://askhistorians.libsyn.com/askhistorians-podcast-episode-010
I for one was drawn in by /r/AdviceAnimals. I was a non-accounted lurker while I was working on my Masters dissertation and the simplified form of communication was about all my brain could process after 9-10 hours of reading medieval Welsh law, Latin peace-settlements, and a large number of silly names for both people and places: Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn ab Owain Cyfeiliog of Powys Gwenwywnwyn did homage to Llywelyn ap Gruffudd of Gwynedd, prince of Wales (say it in a comedy Valleys accent).
Anyway, I finally found my way over here and after a few weeks of lurking I sought to justify my random knowledge about Wales by telling someone how the Welsh took care of their teeth.
Ah you guys talked about my podcast!
First, yallah is Arabic-derived slang, not Russian. Second, "I have no money" is "ein li kesef". "eing" isn't a word (the "ng" sound is only in loans), and "kef" is fun, whereas "kesef" is money.
I liked hearing that bit about the Black Hebrew Israelites randomly come up. I had never heard of them until I moved to D.C. and I see them from time to time, certainly an 'interesting' group if you've never heard of them before.

Got around to listening to this finally. I feel so left out!!!! :(
BTW Tas, I was the one who removed the Northern Ireland post, and I still feel bad about it. the worst part was that I wrote the absolute most polite response explaining why I had no choice but to remove it, and the guy was super understanding, but then deleted it himself. So there isn't even a copy of the response anywhere.
