Gabriel, comte de Montgomery, seigneur de Lorges killed King Henry II in a jousting tournament. King Henry pardoned him before dying, but Gabriel was socially disgraced, and left the court.

Later on, he converted to Protestantism, and rebelled against France. He was captured. King Henry's widow, Catherine de Medici, had him executed. She had always had a grudge against him.
