There are different origins to different Mother-related holidays in many countries. In the US for example, it originated in 1908 from Anna Jarvis, who later became enraged at its commercialization. In the UK it is tied with the Christian holy day of Mothering Sunday which occurs on the fourth Sunday of Lent (March 30, 2014), and has become more secularized like the US version as time went on.
